You are worth more than many sparrows...

Matthew 10:29-31

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[a] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Greg: Zebras in the Center of the Earth

I don't know how many times a day Shannon or I say to the kids, "You're arguing about WHAT??" It seems that there is no topic too trivial that will prevent our children from practicing their verbal sparring skills.

Here's a list of some of the very real topics that the kids have been arguing about lately:
-- Whether the center of the earth is made of fire or hot rocks. (I resolved this one myself. The center of the earth is filled with Zebras, of course.)
-- Who can get power bracelets by visiting Puerto Rico (don't ask...I can't make sense of it either).
-- Who should be bitten by the cat next. (They seem to actually like it.)
-- Who ate the last of the Alphabits...and whether or not he should have.
-- Which salad dressing tastes best. (Trick question, by the way. The best dressing comes from a 50/50 blend of Ranch and Italian.)
-- Whether or not Ava pooped. (Ava herself often weighs in on this one...and is often found to be wrong.)
-- Who messed up whose "house." (Here "house" means "a pile of blankets and toys on the floor.")

And the arguing isn't limited to each other. They have no problem telling me or Shannon exactly where to get off. Just this evening while I was correcting his Christmas Essay Alex informed me that I didn't know how to spell "our." I confess a guilty pleasure at these moments when I suddenly ask him, "Wait a minute...which one of us is the English teacher again?" It's sarcasm. I know. I shouldn't say that. But I do.

We can't really complain. Being right is really fun. Surely they've noticed that Shannon and I both enjoy a nice steaming mug of I'm-Right-and-You're-Wrong.

Now that I mention it, that may be where they got it from. You know...from watching all that arguing Shannon does. :)
